PERSONAL NOTES

For me, the Pentax K1000 has a huge sentimental value, as it was one of my first camera. I used it in the 80s when I began astrophotography, I used it in high school and college during photography classes. They were popular for students, as they were built like a tank. I used one on trip when I had no money. While people were staying at nice hotels eating foie gras and using nice modern cameras, I was sleeping in trains, eating baloney and shooting a K1000.

The Pentax K1000 is a good camera to learn, it has everything you need to slow you down at the good pace so you can learn. Frame, Fosus, Exposure, Click ! The finder is simple, the meter needle is on one side, and the focussing area is of course in the center. The focussing screen is not the best, but it slows you down to make sure your focus is good. The meter needle moves wether you change aperture or speed. Once again, this is a learning camera, everything is slow.

The 2 big advantages of the K1000 are its price, and durability.

CONCLUSION

The Pentax K1000 is a classic camera. I would get a Pentax ME instead, which is a bit lighter, smaller, better, faster, ...
