INTRODUCTIONThe Nikonos III is an underwater 35mm film camera made by Nikon in Japan in 1975. BEST SUITED FOR:
PERSONAL NOTESThe Nikonos series of underwater cameras is legendary within the diving world. The Nikonos III have some particularities worth knowing before hand. For example: to open the camera, you first need to remove the lens. To take a photo, you need to press on the lever used to wind the film. After the photo is taken, that lever sticks out in front, you need to push it back to wind the film. The Body feels extremely solid, durable, it's compact, and is easy to use with big gloves. It's also important to know that some of the Nikonos lenses are usable only under the water. If used in the air, photos are out of focus, because of the refraction index difference. I was lucky to have a lens that was usable both underwater and in the air. CONCLUSIONIf you dive, the new underwater compact cameras are pretty impressive, even for video. If you deep dive, then you need to invest in sealed cases that often cost more than the camera it's designed for, but it's the only way to get good quality images while keeping a simple workflow. The Nikonos III is from another era. PHOTO SAMPLESVERDICT:
