INTRODUCTIONThe Minox B is an extremely well made camera, directly out of the cold war era. It was used by many spies for many years. It is a subminiature camera designed to capture information on 8mm film in a very discreet way. It was manufactured in Germany between 1958 and 1969. You can still find a used one on eBay for under $100. They are extremely well made and durable. BEST SUITED FOR:
PERSONAL NOTESThe first thing that striked me when playing with the Minox camera is the amazingly well done craftmanship. The Minox B is compact, useful, precise, discreet, filled with option even for a spy camera. It has builtin B&W and neutral density filters, focus markings on its lanyard for precise document reproduction. The mechanics is sturdy and smooth, it feels like a Leica. The image size is very small, so it's better to use low ISO film. I used ISO 25 Minox black & white film, which has a nice resolution power, even then, the enlargment ratio cannot be too big, so enlargment are reduced to a minimum. CONCLUSIONThe Minox B is a very nice object to use or play with. The big limitation of this camera is its small image size. If you want to play with a very well designed and unique camera, go get one. But know that any cellphone now does better with much less effort. PHOTO SAMPLESVERDICT:
