INTRODUCTIONIn 2009, I started to build some cameras to answer some of my very specific photographic needs. The cameras I make are all named after well knowned women photographers. Hannah is a 11x14 Neo-Dadïst camera. It was named after Hannah Höch which was a German Dada artist, well knowned for her photomontages. Hannah Hoch I made this camera because I wanted to explore Dadaism, which I like so much: BEST SUITED FOR:
PERSONAL NOTESIn 2010, I bought a lot of large format film, mainly 4x5 and 8x10, but I also got my hand on a box of 11x14 film. I had no 11x14 camera, but I had the film for almost nothing. The idea of having a 11x14 camera was appealing, but it would be to shoot only 10 sheets, so instead of buying a camera, I decided to build one. I had no idea for the camera design. Meanwhile, I was looking for a name for the camera, so I was looking at the list of women photographers on Wikipedia, and I saw the page for Hannah Höch. As I like Dadaïsm and Surrealism, I decided to make a camera in these lines... And I had a flash... Hannah used to do photomontage, she took pictures, cut them and made photomontages. So I decided to make a camera that would make a photomontage right out of the box. The camera would do a photomontage directly on the film. It would have 8 different lenses and make 8 different geometrical parts within the same image. So I made the camera, I went shooting with it, and the results are very nice, if you like Dadaism, I do. CONCLUSIONBy making cameras, I was able to do some very special, one of a king images that sold well as Art. Making your own cameras is a lot of fun, and it's a huge learning opportunity too! I encourage everyone to try, use your imagination, sky is the limit! PHOTO SAMPLESVERDICT:
