INTRODUCTIONThe Canon AE-1 is a 35mm film SLR camera made in Japan by Canon between 1976 and 1984. BEST SUITED FOR:
PERSONAL NOTESThe Canon AE-1 is a classic camera, it has a very nice finder with a split screen in the center of microprisms, and on the right side of the finder, you can see the meter needle telling you which aperture will be used. The AE-1 can be used either in manual mode or in a shutter priority mode. This camera has a few more options than a beginner's camera, like depth of field preview and timer, but it's still limited. The shutter goes from 1/1000s up to 2s, and bulb. The AE-1 is a good camera when you need to use shutter priority mode, for action or sports. Back in the film days, Canon cameras were almost all shutter priority, as opposed to pretty all other brands which were mostly aperture priority cameras. No wonder why in these days Canon were king for action and sports, while other brands were not. Nowadays, it's not true anymore, every brand of cameras has all the modes a photographer needs. Moreover, a lot of entry level cameras have other modes that helps learning photography. At somepoint, when people learn, they understand that they do no need all the nonsense modes, as you can do everything with the 3 basic modes, which are aperture priority, shutter priority and manual I personally prefer aperture priority over shutter priority, so for the photography I do, old Canons are pretty useless. The AE-1 is still a very good camera. It just lacks a few features to be awesome. CONCLUSIONIf you need a shutter priority camera for action or sports, old Canon are excellent. PHOTO SAMPLESVERDICT:
